Combining vintage keyboards and lead guitar, Special Purpose blends psychedelic sounds with earthy elements of funk and jazz. The band has been playing shows in the Portland, Oregon area since 2016 with some of the best musicians in the city.
Their debut instrumental album Password, written by guitarist Lance Vallis, was released in 2019 and features Paul Paresa on keyboards, Hunter Parmentier on bass, and Forest Carter on drums.
Steven Strauss is a multi instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, engineer, producer and owner of B-Side Studios in Portland Oregon. Seven Cycles West is his debut release and was finished and mixed at B-Side Studios in 2017.

Jazz saxophonist Kenney Polson is also an accomplished composer and educator. Based in the Pacific Northwest, he has lived and performed in over 50 countries. Known widely as a smooth jazz artist, his seasoned musical style incorporates Latin, classical, New Age, rhythm & blues, funk and gospel influences. – resting on a firm foundation of straight ahead jazz.
In the spring of 2017, I researched and wrote a story for “American Angler” on the plight of wild steelhead in the Columbia Basin, which impacts Oregon, Washington and Idaho. As a die-hard Deschutes River steelhead angler, I was aware that runs were shrinking—but had no idea conditions were so dire.
The Last Steelhead attempts to explore some of these factors, a bit of their history, and the attitudes surrounding our behaviors and policies that seem to be standing in the way of taking meaningful action to prevent another extinction.
